Real Madrid beats Osasuna 2-0 in Spain (Published Monday, April 23rd, 2007 12:53AM)MADRID, Spain (AP) Real Madrid climbed within two points of the lead in the Spanish league after beating Osasuna 2-0 Sunday. Raul Gonzalez and Robinho scored a goal each for Madrid, which played its fourth straight game without David Beckham. He has an injured right knee and has a maximum of nine games left in his four-year Madrid career before joining the Los Angeles Galaxy in August. Raul scored his fourth goal of the season in the 24th minute when he slid in to meet Emerson's header. Robinho added the second in the 80th after Osasuna goalkeeper Ricardo Lopez pushed the ball into his path from Gonzalo Higuain's cross. Barcelona leads the league with 56 points, followed by Sevilla with 55 and Madrid with 54. Sevilla, which is trying to win its first league title since 1946, was held to a 1-1 tie by Racing Santander. Sevilla dominated the first half, but strikers Javier Chevanton and Luis Fabiano each missed good chances. Daniel Alves also hit the bar. Sevilla is trying to win three titles this season. The team has reached the semifinals of the Copa del Rey and the quarterfinals of the UEFA Cup, which it won last season. At the other end, Gimnastic stayed in last place after a 1-0 loss at Deportivo. Iago Iglesias scored from a direct free kick in the 58th minute. --- BERLIN (AP) - Werder Bremen moved two points behind Bundesliga leader Schalke with a 1-0 victory over FC Nuremberg. Markus Rosenberg scored with a backheel in the 75th minute after Naldo's shot had hit the post. "We knew it would be a tough match, but it was an important and deserved win," Bremen coach Thomas Schaaf said. All four Bundesliga title contenders won over the weekend, leaving Schalke with 56 points, Bremen with 54, VfB Stuttgart with 52 and Bayern Munich with 50. Bochum beat Bayer Leverkusen 4-1, with Fanis Gekas scoring his league best 15th and 16th goals. --- AMSTERDAM, Netherlands (AP) - Ajax stayed two points behind Dutch league leader PSV Eindhoven after a being held to a 2-2 tie by RKC Waalwijk. Ajax could have moved even with 19-time champion PSV with a win. The defending champions lost at NEC Nijmegen 2-1 Saturday. Gabri scored off Wesley Sneijder's ninth-minute pass to put Ajax in the lead, but Jan Vertonghen tied the score a minute later with a powerful header. Ajax again took the lead in the 21st when Sneijder beat RKC goalkeeper Erwin Lemmens. Ruud Berger scored the final goal for RKC in the 71st. PSV still leads the standings with 68 points, followed by Ajax and AZ Alkmaar with 66. AZ defeated NAC Breda 4-1. --- GLASGOW, Scotland (AP) - Rangers prevented Celtic from clinching back-to-back Scottish Premier League titles by downing St. Mirren 1-0. Nacho Novo scored from 10 yards in the fourth minute for Rangers, who moved closer to securing second place in the league. St. Mirren remains in 11th place. Celtic leads the league with 78 points, followed by Rangers with 65 and Aberdeen with 57. Celtic can win its 41st title if it beats Kilmarnock on April 22, after it plays St. Johnstone in the Scottish Cup semifinals Saturday. --- PARIS (AP) - Toulouse scored two late goals to beat Sedan 2-0 and move into third place in the French league.
Paulo Cesar, who has recently moved up from defense to midfield, scored with a low shot from the edge of the box in the 78th minute. Albin Ebondo then added the other seven minutes later with an angled shot from about eight yards.
