S.Williams defeats Sharapova in QFinals in Charleston

CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) Serena Williams has advanced to the semifinals of the Family Circle Cup, defeating Maria Sharapova 7-5, 4-6, 6-1 in the first match between the two on clay.

Williams continued her recent domination over Sharapova. She has defeated her in four consecutive matches going back to 2005 and is 5-2 all-time against Sharapova.

Williams will play either Alize Cornet or Agnes Szavay in the semifinal on Saturday.
