The news coming from Sacramento -- and since when has there been good news? -- gets gloomier by the day. Last week, state Legislative Analyst Mac Taylor delivered jolt: California's budget deficit could grow to $28 billion by June 2010 unless the problem is addressed immediately through a combination of tax increases and budget cuts.
Illinois Senator Barack Obama was not the only winner last Tuesday as he racked up an impressive victory over Republican challenger John McCain to become the first black president-elect in this nation's history. While the Democrat was making history, Latino voters also wrote a new chapter in their electoral history by going to the polls in droves. Officials estimate that between 10 million and 11 million Latinos cast a vote last Saturday, shattering the previous high of 7.6 million in the 2004 presidential election.
